Tom brings his qualities of straightforwardness and humility to the workplace. Growing up in Europe in a military family, Tom worked on construction sites featuring homes whose ages spanned several centuries. He developed a passion for the hands-on work construction and remodeling entails.
Since 1990, Tom has been continuously involved with Home Sweet Home Improvements, growing it from himself as a carpenter working small projects to a full-service construction company. As the firm’s president, he enjoys building and renovating not only beautiful, energy-efficient structures but also relationships with clients as he helps them meet their construction goals. “My goal has always been to be our client’s contractor for life. Becoming friends in the process is an added bonus and adds to an even greater success at the end of the day”.
Education is important to Tom. Continuing education is even more important. Tom holds a degree in Construction Management and holds professional designations from National Association of Home Builders as a Certified Green Professional, Certified Graduate Remodeler, and a Certified Aging in Place Specialist. Tom is also an EPA Certified Lead Safe Contractor. Tom frequently attends industry seminars, trade shows, workshops and classes to improve his knowledge of the building and remodeling industry and encourages everyone in the company to do the same. “It’s important to gain knowledge by continuing education in our industry. Whether we are attending an industry seminar, safety seminars, trade shows, workshops, each is equally important.”
Tom relishes time spent with his wife, Dawn, and their two children, Hunter, and Heather. For relaxation, Tom enjoys making furniture and tooling around in the workshop with his son, Hunter. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and spending time at the beach. Tom is an Assistant Scoutmaster at Boy Scout Troop 600 in Warrenton, where his son just obtained his Eagle Scout rank. Tom is also an Advisor to Venturing Crew 600 where both of his kids are crew members.
Tom jokes that he makes it a rule to meet the spouse of new employees. “We’re a family owned business; it’s the atmosphere around here. It makes us more complete as a team when we know our employees and what’s important to them. Family’s pretty important”.

Dawn joined her husband, Tom, fulltime in 2004, bringing strong math abilities and extensive experience in project budgeting. Dawn earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1994. Her resume includes nine years spent working for a government contractor in Northern Virginia budgeting and tracking contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars working with co-workers and others all over the world. Now Dawn handles the company’s day to day office operations as well as marketing and working with the clients on their projects.
Dawn loves the team atmosphere at Home Sweet Home Improvements, especially when the employees all get together for some “fun” time away from the office.
Having spent the early part of her child hood in New England—Dawn’s family lived in Fairfield, Vermont--- Dawn appreciates Virginia not only for being the home of Home Sweet Home Improvements, but also for having all the changes of the seasons….”I still love the excitement of snow coming. But I also appreciate that the snow doesn’t last “forever” when it does come!”
Dawn will tell anyone and everyone about her kids. Outside of work you can find her driving them to their activities, which include gymnastics, baseball, Boy Scouts, and Venturing Scouts.
